Expert Tips on Marketing Ethics

Woman Contemplating Ethical Marketing

Sometimes tips on marketing ethics are hard to come by. Let’s clear some things up.

Do you find yourself questioning the topic you are marketing?

Maybe you should be questioning it.

Actually, it’s absolutely paramount to consider your marketing ethics when marketing a new product or service.

Here’s a list of tips on marketing ethics to ask yourself when considering your go-to-market plan:

  1. Who is my target buyer, and are they a vulnerable population?
  2. What is my messaging, am I preying on a buyer’s desperation?
  3. What feeling do I want my brand to be remembered for?
  4. Are there any legal implications I need to be considering in my decisions?
  5. What disclaimers would help my buyer be more informed?
  6. Am I providing value to my audience with this piece of content?

In general, if you get a yucky feeling around the ad copy, commercial script, or content that you are thinking of publishing, maybe don’t publish it.

I have come across many examples of bad marketing, but coming across unethical marketing is a whole new level of disappointment to me. I see many “health” establishments that prey upon their target audience’s desperation or vulnerabilities – and let me tell you it doesn’t leave a good mark on their memorability.

Your reputation as a brand is literally ALL you have at the end of the day.

Leave feelings of inspiration, hope, kindness, and acceptance in this world. Leave it better than you found it.

We all have a duty to do so! There is a much higher weight on brand responsibility now than ever.
